HELPFUL HINTS FOR INTERVIEW PREPARATION

You will have heard the saying, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”, nothing could be more true when it comes to interviewing for specific job roles.

Understand exactly what the job entails and this is best achieved through the Job description if it is available.
Research the company/organisation and think about why you would want to work for them and how they may benefit from having you as an employee.
Visit the company website.
Know who their competitors are and find out about them
Prepare some of your own questions. These will be related to the company and may become clear once you have done your own research. They may include:
Opportunities for progression
Long and short term aims of the Company
Company structure
What they are looking for in appointing the right person
More questions on responsibilities of the role
If successful what is the interview process from here

You should also prepare for questions they may ask you and these may include:

What are your strengths/weaknesses
Give examples of major achievements in your working career
Give examples of resolving disputes, difficult situations, exceeding expectations
What motivates you and demotivates you
What are your goals and ambitions
How do you perform under pressure, give examples
Give examples of initiatives you have introduced
Why do you want this job
Why did you leave your last job
How will you make a difference to our organisation
How did you get on with your last manager

In relation to the questions which require you to give examples you should listen carefully and take your time to answer. While it is important to relax, do not become over-confident which may result in you giving unessential information or worse, information which is best not shared. Remain professional at all times.
