Deciding on the right career path
Choosing a career path can be exciting, but also a bit tricky. Some people spend a lifetime discovering what they are good at. Everyone has a purpose in life, from a catwalk model to a nail technician; we all contribute to the world in some shape or form. But knowing who you are and what you want to be is essential in the search for a new career.
1. What do you like to do? When choosing your career path you are going to want to make sure that you find some enjoyment in your chosen field of work. Far too many people choose career paths where they are miserable years after working in the field that they chose. People who choose the right career field are usually happier people and will perform their job better because of the love and interest that they have in it.
2 Take a good look at yourself and decide what your good at doing. For instance, are you good working with people? If so you may be perfectly suited to a career in the service industry. Are you good working with your hands? Becoming a massage therapist would be a good idea. Match the skills that you naturally have with the careers that can use your skills.
3 When you are considering a certain career, make sure that you understand the education and training that will be needed to follow through with that career path. For instance if you want to become a beauty therapist, you will need to go to college for up to 3 years. Many careers will require 3 years of college and some only 1 year. Just be sure you understand the educational requirements for the career path you are choosing.
4 Salary may be important to you and therefore be a consideration when choosing your career path. We go to work so we can pay the bills and have extra money for the fine things in life. The more money you make, the more money you will have for those fine things. Think about what the salary is in the career field you choose and how far you can advance.
5 Be sure the career path you take balances your personal life with your professional life. For instance, if you want to become a beauty therapist you are likely to be required to work weekends and evenings as this is when most people are available for treatments. If you want to be a BT you will likely work shifts rather than a regular work pattern. Just be sure that you will be happy with the schedule that many in your chosen profession have.
6 Take a career test at your local high school or community college. These career test will test your skills, personality, and interest to best match you with the type of careers you would be good at. These tests are very good and will give you an excellent idea which career path you should follow.
7 Once you have decided what career path you are going to take, make a commitment to yourself that you are going to follow through with your plans. You have given lots of thought about what career path to take and now it is time for you to complete your mission.
